IV drop monitor DIY illustration

This device is design for no professional user, and no contact with medicine or patient. so every body can use it without any training, without  any permit. After nurse had setup a Intravenous set and adjust the drops rate, user clip a photo couple , then push the SW1 button, THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO.

The IR LED and photo sensor act as photo couple, to detect drops pass by, after 5 periods get, the average period will been calculated, and a reasonable normal range too ( after learning process, RED LED off ). the normal range will be compare with following drop period one by one, if out of range , alarm on

When you push SW1 to start the monitor, push less 1 second will go into normal mode, GREEN LED on & off RED LED on ( on learning process ), speak will buzz when something wrong, pin 12 & 13 on the PIC16c54 pull high also. If you push  SW1 more than 1 second it goes into silent mode, GREEN OFF & YELLOW on (on silent learning process ), which will keep speak silent, only pin 12 & 13 pull high , when something wrong. an additive, for example. radio transmitter, relay, connect to pin 12 or 13 make this device versatile.

In normal mode, if the photo couple can not detect drops pass by within several seconds, it buzz. you should adjust the position of photo couple. I used to place the clip near the pin hole where dropping (near the upper) .

To reset the monitor, press SW1 again to restart it. to stop it, press SW2, it goes into sleep mode no power switch need , but if you do not need it for days, I will suggest you remove battery or add a power switch .

I designed this device, because I think it can help someone, if you like it, you can do anything you want, include commercial use.
